Looks like I'm outta commission for a while, Commander. (if Tanya is lost) Tanya (wounded): Wait. Use Tanya and our Grand Cannons on the Soviet fleet to protect the city. Tanya: One short swim to Alcatraz and I'll blow that psychic contraption sky high!Įva: Sir, those Soviet Dreadnoughts are pummelling the city. And when you give me the word, I'll swim to Alcatraz and I'll turn that Psychic Dominator into scrap metal. Use the grand cannons to soften up the Soviets. We're sitting right in the middle of the first Soviet occupation. Tanya: Yeah, but we couldn't have come at a worse time. The Allies are transported back in time to the Third World War. Don't worry, it will be quite painless and life will be so much simpler for you, with no freedom or will. Tanya: Woohoo! Let's shake it baby! Eva: Hang on, this is gonna be a close one. Eva: Commander, the time machine is powered up, we're ready to make the time shift. You must protect it until we have enough power to activate the device. If time machine is under attack Eva: Commander, the time machine is under attack. If we lose too many there won't be enough left in the city to charge the time machine. If power plants are under attack Eva: Commander, one of our power plants has come under attack. Just a few more power plants and we should be able to power up the time machine. When deployed, they are able to reduce a tank into scrap metal in seconds.Įva: Good job, Commander. They're armed with both machine guns and anti-tank rockets. They want those power plants too.Įva: Commander, these are Guardian GIs. Be careful Commander, Yuri's initiates are combing the city. Protect the time machine until you can capture enough power plants to bring it online. Eva: The time machine is just south of the Golden Gate Bridge.Įva: The Golden Gate Bridge entrance was destroyed by the Soviets during the war. Our only chance is to use Professor Einstein's Time Machine to send us back in time and stop Yuri before he can complete his worldwide network of Psychic Dominators.Įstablishing battlefield control, stand by. It's only a matter of time before Yuri brings the Psychic Dominator on Alcatraz back online. Hey, not saying it's gonna be easy, I'm a field op, I'm not a strategist. Well the Doc's machine needs power too, so you have to get there, you have to capture power plants yourself. Yuri's forces are trying to capture power plants throughout to divert power to the psychic dominator. Tanya: Look, we don't have a lot of time Commander. With luck, you may be able to advert the Psychic Dominator Disaster before it has begun! I believe we can use it to transport your forces backwards in time. This is my prototype temporal displacement device. Now it hasn't been tested yet, but it might be our only way out of this, right doc? Doc!?Īlbert Einstein: Oh! Ja, ja. Tanya: There may be a way out of this, Commander. Stand by Commander, I have Special Agent Tanya on the line. Luckily, the device here in San Francisco seems to be underpowered. Yuri's forces have successfully detonated two of his Psychic Dominator devices, turning much of the planet into mindless Yuri drones. Eva Lee: The situation looks bad, Commander. I was actually searching for Tinkle stories and subscription online for my daughters that I came accross your post, as I wanted them to relish Tinkle as I did when I was young Your post brings back my memories when I would sneak in a Tinkle book as soon as it arrived and keep in between my text book and finish reading it the same day. When/if I get it my hands on it again, I'll be happy to oblige your request. At the moment, my copy of 'Tinkle' is in storage in another state, along with 99% of everything else I own. Great Work! Bī - Thanks for your comment. If it isn't too much of a hassle, could you please post the rest of this issue? I have a feeling that my contribution to the "Tinkle Tricks and Treats" section was featured in this very issue. I could actually recollect the stories that you have scanned and posted. Very nostalgic! I religiously read every issue of Tinkle right from the first issue till about the 200th. I LOVE Tinkle comics!!!!! Thanks so much for posting these, it made my lunch work more enjoyable! What a score! i want those comics! i must share your blog in my blog if you don't mind It would seem, from the mango story, that Benkalal is a paranoid schizophrenic. (click on links to open pages in a new window ▼) Maybe worthy of a little bit of nostalgia, but no big deal.īut those folks will just have to bear with the rest of us for a moment while we pause to take in something outside of familiar territory. In posting about Tinkle, I realize that for many it's a very mundane thing to see some of these old pages. Soon my feeling was that it all seemed to be doing its job with precision and economy, which seems appropriate for a comic that's printed fortnightly. Off-putting, but guessed that maybe that comes from it being outside of my experience. (Tinkle also didn't immediately fill me with a sense that I was 'in trouble', and sure to be punished.)Īt first I found Tinkle's format and artwork a bit I could barely recognize it as being the same 'species' as the comic books I knew, and yet the experience was indelible.įinding Tinkle was strange and other-worldly, too, though not as sensational as discovering Zap as a 7-year old. I'd never seen an underground comic book, or half of the things this one depicted. To digress for a moment, the experience reminded me just a little bit of an elementary school memory When I found a severely tattered copy of - 'Zap Comix' #5 under a bush in the park (no doubt left there by some filthy hippie I suppose). But it was fun and refreshing to find myself approaching Tinkle as a truly unknown quantity.Ĭertainly I've seen tons of comics in my time, so it wasn't TOO alien, but still it smacked of something different. In searching about the web for more background, what comes through in abundance are the fond memories people have of reading this comic book, being entertained by it, and learning from it.Īs a 40-something American, the particular passion of that response is most reminiscent of memories I and my peers have of growing up with titles like Classics Illustrated, Archie and MAD magazine in the 1960's and '70's. Like most of the ACK titles, editions of Tinkle are published in English and several Indian languages. Tinkle's founding editor Anant Pai had previously launched the Amar Chitra Katha comics imprint in 1967, which soon became one of India's largest series of comic books, crafted to teach Indian kids more about their cultural heritage. (Click on images to ENLARGE in a new window) ▶ What I've learned is that since its first issue in 1980, Tinkle has continued to be a hugely familiar part of growing up for vast numbers of people in India and beyond. Growing up in the U.S., and not having traveled much outside its borders, I'd never seen this comic book magazine. Locusts, hovercrafts, historical pieces, folklore and parables, content ideas from readers - What IS this?!? And who is this 'Uncle Pai'? I was in a thrift store when I found this copy of the May 20th, 1985 issue of India's Tinkle Comics, and for me it was an encounter with something truly exotic and odd. So it turns out I've led a sheltered life. It’s a 5.1 system, so you won’t get the swirling 3D sound without adding ceiling-down drivers like on a 5.2.1 Dolby Atmos system, but seeing as the vast majority of content is still mixed in 5.1, you’re not missing much for the time being. It’s after this level that I felt like the subwoofer really started kicking out the Michael Bay explosions with gusto, and the surround speakers made me feel like I was in a movie theater again. I really like how lively the CineHome Pro gets when I crank the volume past 50 percent. There were no hiccups, missed connections, or other issues in my testing time, which is pretty rare for wireless speakers.Īs for the sound quality itself, the 14 custom-designed drivers and 10-inch sub filled my medium-size viewing room with big, cinematic sound. It’s likely just turning on the speakers and coming out of standby mode. Occasionally, it takes a few seconds for the sound to work on the home screen, but it never fails afterward. Audio came through the speakers after turning on the TCL 6-series I was reviewing at the time, with the TV remote immediately taking control of the system. Listen to the system with the subwoofer in various locations and leave it wherever you think it sounds best.Īs someone who sees odd connection issues with soundbars even on cutting-edge TVs, I was pleasantly surprised using the CineHome Pro-it just worked. Don’t place it near a corner as that will concentrate the bass. The subwoofer is the trickiest to place, because the best spot depends on your room. I suggest you snag some cheap stands for the speakers, like these from Amazon, so you’re not searching for bookshelves or other slightly mismatched places to put them. The speakers go exactly where you’d think: The center channel, front left and right speakers, and two rear surrounds are easy to place, and all you’ve got to do is flick the power switch to pair them with the small central hub. Consider buying extensions that can be hidden under couches or around the edge of rugs in your viewing space if you don’t have perfectly situated plugs like I (surprisingly) do. The other setup concern is making sure you have enough power outlets. Most modern TVs (from the past two or three years) have ARC built in to at least one port, but you’ll want to make sure before you spend the dough on one of these systems. ARC allows your TV's remote (or any universal remote) to control the system with ease. You can use an ARC-equipped HDMI port or optical output on your TV to set up the CineHome Pro’s hub, but I highly recommend the former. Some TVs have built-in WiSA support, but many don’t, which is why Enclave Audio smartly included a tiny powered HDMI hub to plug into your TV. Because they use the WiSA (Wireless Speaker and Audio Association) standard-a wireless protocol designed to allow powered speakers to sync up with what’s on screen-each tower has a built-in class D amp that's specially tuned for these specific speakers. You get five midsized towers that can be placed around the room, with sleek metal grates and hefty-feeling plastic enclosures. They’re not as large as the towers you see on some wired home theater systems, but the CineHome Pro’s speakers aren’t the tiny satellite models you’d expect from a glorified soundbar, either. After a few weeks of Marvel movies, Ted Lasso, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer reruns, I’m calling it: The days of traditional wired home theater systems are numbered. This is no expanded soundbar system it’s full-fledged 5.1 surround sound. Plug in a powered hub to your TV (and each of the five speakers and subwoofer to power outlets) and you’ve got yourself a proper, THX-certified home theater-no receiver or speaker cables required. The Enclave Audio CineHome Pro, via a little-known wireless technology called WiSA, tries to take the headaches out of the equation. Just ask the folks at the Home Theater subreddit, who literally refuse to discuss soundbars, full stop. Sure, you can get a nice soundbar with a wireless subwoofer and satellite speakers for decent surround sound in an easier package, but those rarely compete for cinematic oomph with wired systems. You have to deal with cable management, bulky receivers, and big, unwieldy speakers. The best home-theater sound systems usually come with headaches. On iOS it is the default and unlike android devices which let you switch defaults, iOS doesn’t currently do this (and may well never offer this).Īs such, if you click on an email address, it will open in Mail.app (in my mind that’s a good enough reason to consider mail.app as you’ll have to use it sometime!) Mail.app is probably “good enough” for many people, it offers gestures for quick archiving, deleting and moving emails. Mail.app is the default email client built into Mac and iOS devices. This lets you either save an email to complete later (to do), save the information in an email for reference (memo), or say that you have taken action to an email (done). However, the aspect about airmail that really makes it stand out is the “task” approach the app takes to email. These include markdown editing, adding to your favorite task management tool, keyboard shortcuts and more. It has a great look and design with some powerful features underneath. Airmail 2.5 (Mac, iOS)Īirmail is a Mac app with a new iPhone app. It makes sense, they are running their own servers to provide these features and they need some method to cover those running cost. However, to run these features, there is a $5 a month subscription. These include smart filtering (like Google inbox, but you can customize them more), high powered search and organizing by importance. Inky uses it’s own severs to interface with your mail and allow you to do some pretty clever stuff across your devices. Inky also works on the major desktop and mobile clients with Windows, Mac, Android and iOS support. Inky supports Exchange, Google apps and IMAP severs (covering most basses). The desktop client will support exchange fantastically, has integrated tasks and calendar as well and comes along with Office 365 (so you have your other Microsoft products to). However, it is worth noting that features like email snoozing do not yet sync from your mobile to desktop (unlike a tool like the now gone Mailbox). There are also the classic desktop clients from Microsoft on both Windows and Mac. Now the Sunrise team are also part of Outlook, meaning one of the best calendars (with task integration and a special keyboard to organize events) is going to become better integrated. Shortly afterwards Accompli became Outlook, bringing the great features of Accompli (swipe gestures, email snoozing, built in calendar), but now under official Microsoft branding. Two of these apps were Accompli (a great third party email client) and Sunrise (a fantastic third party calendar application). Microsoft recently went on a spree of mobile application acquiring. If you like Inbox, but want a native Mac desktop client with keyboard shortcuts and multiple accounts, Boxy could be for you. Boxy (Mac)īoxy is a way to run multiple email accounts within an inbox with the native Mac interface. There are mobile apps as well as a web client that you can use. These include snoozing email, smart mailboxes grouping of themes like purchases, newsletters, promos etc and adding tasks from within mail. Inbox takes standard Gmail and adds some extra features that you either love or hate. Gmail also supports extensions to add extra functions that users have added on to the service over the years. Gmail has become a very popular email service and for a few good reasons, the use of the tag system, the good mobile apps, and the widespread free accounts make it a very popular choice for many people. We all have different reasons and that can be useful for others to read. If I miss an application then please leave a comment and I’d love to know why you have chosen your app. Many mail applications run on multiple platforms and with that in mind I’ve tried to create a layout that is as logical as possible without repeating myself. Of course, If you use a different email client than is listed below, you are welcome to leave a comment and tell us why you use it. Like the last time, this review will not tell you the best email app for everyone, but instead, will have a selection of email apps that should work well for how different people deal with email. Personally, I too have undergone a “conversation” over my use of email and email client leading to me using a different combination of applications across the board. So we thought it would be good to update this email post for the New Year and see how the state of email has changed. Recently, this matter has been agitated further by a popular email client (Mailbox) that was a acquired by a big company declaring that it shut down. And yet recently we’ve seen some big changes that have really shaken up the way many people use email and deal with email. Email is an old technology that is very similar to how it started out. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is an epic fantasy film, based on the original novel by C.S. The yellow ring transports Digory to a wood where he finds Polly. The two children, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, play together in the attic connecting the row of houses where they live. Two neighborhood children meet and become friends during a summer in London in the late 1800s. Regarding this, what happens in The Magician's Nephew? Likewise, how does the Magician's Nephew end? It is interesting because the denouement, which wraps up everything in this story, actually sets the stage for the beginning of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." "The Magician's Nephew" ends with Digory saving his mother by bringing her an apple from Narnia, which he managed to do by resisting the temptation to Keeping this in view, where does the Magician's Nephew take place?
